Designed as an entry for Synoci's Folding challenge: synconi.deviantart.com/journal…
The theme of this challenge is to "boldly fold as you have never folded before". I guess this is free for interpretation, but it's theme seems to imply trying new origami things you don't usually try. I remember wanting to design a venus flytrap model a while back and decided it was a good choice for the challenge. As someone already familiar with designing origami, instead the "boldly folding" part comes from the way I chose to design this model. I used a method I usually don't use called circle packing to assign paper for the flaps at the base and the two sides of each fly trap. Each of the leaves leading from base to trap are defined by fairly large rivers and the whole thing is kind of based on 120 degree radial symmetry. I decided to forgo some detail on the traps to create a bit more realistic leaf shape. The pad of dirt around the base was improvised from a windmill base.
